Many anxieties and emotional problems are increased by us worrying about the future or ruminating about the past. The brain loves to do this and does it habitually! When the brain ponders on these worries, our bodies believe they are real (rather than thoughts) and responds by releasing stress signals. In short, we shouldn’t believe every thought we have!
Mindfulness practices help to build new habits for the brain, allowing it to be “here and now” more often and recognise thoughts and moods as just passing experiences rather than dangers for our bodies to respond to.
Mindfulness techniques can be used very effectively in the workplace and at home to reduce the impact of stressful situations.
